why you should vote: just because we're no longer getting lynched does not mean that everything is OK:

our generation, as a whole, is largely apathetic (they either don't give a shit or don't give a shit enough to do anything) to a lot of issues in our current society.

• policy brutality (ex: Ferguson)
• education (ex: high drop out rate, quality of education)
• 47% national graduation rate for black males
• mass criminalization of blacks/penal system (ex: stop-and-frisk, school-to-prison)
• "In Washington, D.C.'s public schools, African-American students are almost six times as likely to be suspended or expelled as their white classmates."
• health issues (ex: teen-pregnancy, diabetes, ect.)
• "The teen pregnancy rate declined between 1990 and 2010 by more than 50 percent among white, black and Hispanic teens. However, pregnancy rates for black and Hispanic teens remain twice as high as the rate for white teens."
• unequal wealth distribution/mass poverty
• "In 2011, the median income for black households was about fifty-nine per cent of the median income for white households"
• psychological implications of being black in america (you're not shit and you're never going to be shit unless you dress, talk, act like...)
• Stereotype threat refers to being at risk of confirming, as self-characteristic, a negative stereotype about one's group    (Steele & Aronson, 1995).

how these issues are currently being addressed in america:

1) ignoring them

2) victim blaming 

Victim blaming: blaming minorities for the problems that were caused by the majority. (blaming the victims of the system, when the issue IS the system)

example: the "if i can do it, you can do it too" ideology. 

when a middle class white male claims that if his poor, black counterpart would just "do right" and get an education, then he wouldn't face the issues that he faces now.

the problem with that argument is...

"...Most schools with black majority enrollments do not have libraries, an adequate supply of textbooks and computers, art and music programs and science labs."

if you go to a school where the teachers don’t give a shit about you, the textbooks are old, you’re being targeted by the administration, there isn’t any fucking air conditioning, you’re being told that you’re not shit everyday, AND (realistically) you can’t afford college anyway, i don’t fucking blame you for dropping out. 

when you don't vote,  IT IS IMPLIES THAT YOU ARE OKAY WITH STATUS QUO.
